The Present - God’s gift to us.
This chat was originally written with Christmas in mind but the theme could be changed for use pretty well anytime including other specific occasions such as Valentines or Easter.
Props: A wrapped present
Short Sketch and Chat for Christmas
Need two leaders for this.
Leader 1 – happy Christmas! I’ve bought you a present.
Leader 2 – a present for me? Oh you shouldn’t have, really there was no need.
Leader 1 – oh okay then I’ll send it back.
Leader 2 – oh I’m sorry it is very kind of you. What is it?
Leader 1 – why don’t you open it and see!
Leader 2 – I’m going to guess what’s inside (looking at it and shaking it). Is it a watch?
Leader 1 – in a box that big, do you wear huge watches?
Leader 2 – is it clothing?
Leader 1 – no
Leader 2 – is it smellies?
Leader 1– no
Leader 2 – I’m not doing very well at guessing am I?
Leader 1 – why don’t you simply just open it?
Leader 2 – but that would take all the fun out of it.
Leader 1 – (exasperated) but surely the fun is in opening it and finding out what it is?
Leader 2 – oh no I think I’ll just keep on guessing.
Leader 1 – I haven’t got the time for this – just open it!
Leader 2 – you know I think you have wrapped it up so pretty it seems a shame to tear it all to pieces. I know I’ll keep it for a bit longer and open it tomorrow and then I can keep on guessing.
Leader 1 – I give up, I just wanted to give you a present and you won’t open it. Happy Christmas.
Summing up
I’m sure all of you won’t be like me and not open your presents on Christmas morning.
Giving presents at Christmas reminds us of the gift God gave on that first Christmas - the gift of His only son Jesus. God’s gift or present was not to just a few people on earth but it was for everyone in the whole wide world. But what is sad is that some boys and girls, men and women are just like me earlier, they never accept it. They never find out about Jesus and his love for them. So God’s present – His Son Jesus, stays unopened.
I hope and pray that this Christmas time you will remember, when you open your presents, God’s gift to you His son Jesus and accept it. Don’t ignore it like I did. Find out that God’s gift is the best gift ever!
