‘Don’t Worry’

(There is a PowerPoint for use with this chat. Download from bottom of this page.)

Worry is not a nice thing is it, none of us like to worry. We’re going to talk about what we can do to help us not to worry.

What kinds of things do you think people worry about?

PP SLIDE 2 - Sharing with someone you can trust, helps when we’re worried.

PP SLIDE 2 - Sharing with someone you can trust, helps when we’re worried.

Can someone change a situation by worrying about it? No, you may be able to change a situation by actually doing something about it, or getting someone to help, but simply worrying about it doesn’t help at all.

What words can you think of that help us describe the opposite of worry?

Peace       Calm   Contentment      Trusting

SLIDE 2
Sharing a problem or worry with someone else that you know you can trust, really does help. Sharing a problem or situation with Jesus really does help too. In fact, sharing a problem or a worry with Jesus helps more than you can imagine. We can bring all of our cares and worries to Jesus because He cares for us, so, so much.

PP SLIDE 3 Paul sent a letter to his friends in Greece telling them not to worry but to pray instead.

PP SLIDE 3 Paul sent a letter to his friends in Greece telling them not to worry but to pray instead.

Years ago I used to worry a lot, far too much. I couldn’t start and tell you about all of my worries and how things used to bother me. But I got to know Jesus and learned to bring my worries to Him, I’d tell Him all about the things that concerned me and it made all the difference to my life. I still tell Jesus about my problems and worries today.

Sometimes Jesus uses other people to help me with my worries, people I can trust, some of my family and good friends, but whatever I do I’m always telling Jesus about the things that concern me each day.

One of Jesus’ early followers Paul encouraged people not to worry. He even put it in one of his letters to the people at a church in Greece. There were no mail vans or trains in those days, letters were usually delivered by hand. Here’s the advice he wrote to them.

SLIDE 4
Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.
Philippians 4 v 6

Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank you for your love for me and that you are concerned about the things that sometimes worry me. Help me Lord not to worry, help me to share my worries with the people I trust and also with you. Thank you for listening to me, help me to listen out for you.
Amen
