Series Introduction
This page introduces the material, gives an overview of the series and lists the weekly titles. You will find links to weekly titles at the bottom of the page.
Introduction to Material
There are three parts to the teaching material. Part 1 - Lead-in session, Part 2 - Bible Chat and Part 3 - Response Time. The Lead-in sessions take the form of a short drama, which is arranged to be both entertaining and informative. The drama introduces the subject of the evening in a contemporary manner and sets the scene for the theme to be developed, later in the Bible Chat.
The response time, the third and final part of the session, is intended to be very interactive. Response time may be in small groups (6 - 8 children) or as one with all of the children together. Here the children get chance to discuss the Bible content and ask any questions they may have; it also facilitates the building of relationships between the children and their leader. Conclude the shared time with a prayer, you may like to ask the children if they have any prayer requests at this point.
‘God Colours’ - Series Overview
Matthew 5 verses 14-16 [The Message] “Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colours in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.’
We all have favourite colours. We decorate our homes, buy clothes and other items in colours we like. Some people like bright colours, some soft. Your favourite colour might be blue, green, yellow red or some other.
We often use colours to brighten things up, to bring things to life. Coloured flowers cheer people up. We use colour to create moods, bright and vibrant colours give a feeling of energy, softer colours create an atmosphere of quietness, restfulness.
God made the world full of the natural colours we see all around us, blues, reds, yellows, greens and so on, but God has coloured the world with other wonderful things too, these are like special colours such as love, joy, peace, kindness and many more. God wants us to help Him spread these special colours around the world.
In this series we’ll look at five of the things God would like us to do to shine out His amazing ‘God Colours’
Part 1 - Lead-in Sessions
Lead-in sessions are in drama format and seek in a fun and entertaining way to introduce the evening’s theme.
Part 2 - Bible Chats
These hone in on the weekly themes and develop them from a Biblical perspective giving life application for the children.
Part 3 - Response Time material aims to nurture discussion among the children and facilitate them in challenging and developing their own thoughts about the content of the evening’s material.

Week 1 - Be Yourself
“You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.
Matthew 5 v 5 [The Message]
In this first week we’ll look at how important it is to just be ourselves. God loves us just as we are, we don’t need to try and copy others or be someone other than who we are.
Week 2 - Putting things Right
“This is how I want you to conduct yourself in these matters. If you enter your place of worship and, about to make an offering, you suddenly remember a grudge a friend has against you, abandon your offering, leave immediately, go to this friend and make things right. Then and only then, come back and work things out with God.
Matthew 5 verses 23-24 [The Message]
On week 2 we’ll look at how as Jesus’ followers we should always be people who work to be putting things right when problems occur in relationships. The Bible story of Jacob and his uncle Laban is used to show how two people put their differences and grievances behind them to come to peace and agreement.
Week 3 - Never Pick on People - Always be Kind
“Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults—unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. It’s easy to see a smudge on your neighbour’s face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own. Do you have the nerve to say, ‘Let me wash your face for you,’ when your own face is distorted by contempt? It’s this whole traveling road-show mentality all over again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face, and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbour.
Matthew 7 v 5 verses 1-5 [The Message]
‘Never pick on people - always be kind’ is the theme for week 3. We should always treat those around us with love and never do anything to hurt or embarrass them. We shouldn’t criticise the faults or failures of others. The Bible story of the woman brought to Jesus by the religious leaders for breaking the religious law, is used to show how we shouldn’t pick on others because we all have our failings, make mistakes and do things that are wrong. This story also emphasises Jesus’ amazing grace and forgiveness.
Week 4 - ‘Good Words’
“Let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.”
Ephesians 4 v 29
The words we use are important. Things we say and what comes out of our mouths has impact on other people and affects us too. Words can be encouraging, helpful, kind… but words can also be hurtful, damaging and spoil someone’s day. We should stick to using ‘Good words’.
Week 5 - The Golden Rule
“In everything, do to others as you would have them do to you…”
Matthew 7 verse 12 [NRSV]
The Golden Rule is a great way to finish this series. On this final week we use two of Jesus’ parables to demonstrate to the kids how we should always treat other people in the same way as we ourselves would want to be treated. In the lead-in drama we’ll look at a modern and funny take on the parable of ‘The Unforgiving Servant’ who was treated amazingly by his boss but treated his fellow worker in the completely opposite manner. Later in the Bible chat time ‘The Good Samaritan’ parable rounds up in demonstrating how we can use our imagination to put ourselves in the position of someone in trouble, considering how we would want people to help us in a time of need.
