9 - JIGSAW RELAY

A relay where two teams complete to finish their jigsaw first.

Equipment:

  • Two posters of a fictional character that the children will know cut up into a jigsaw. Jigsaw pieces may be mounted in various ways, card or laminated are options. Ensure that all pieces are child safe, with no sharp edges. Velcro on the back of each jigsaw piece.

  • Two suitable light weight backboards with jigsaw character outline numbered to correspond with jigsaw pieces. Place velcro in each marked piece appropriately so that they can be fixed in place.

  • 2 trays for the jigsaw pieces.

How to play:

Place the two jigsaw boards on chairs in front of each team. Place each teams' jigsaw pieces on a tray either on a table or chair at the back of the room.
Choose 6 children from each team to collect jigsaw pieces and two to be at the front with the boards ready to put together the jigsaw. One at a time the collectors go to the back and collect a piece of the jigsaw from the tray bringing it back to the front where the pieces are added to the jigsaw board. The first team to complete the jigsaw wins.
The next player may only go once the previous player’s piece has been placed correctly on the board.
